Dyslexia 3

Dyslexia, the most recognized of reading problems, is a neurological disorder that is often characterized by difficulties in recognizing and decoding words, leading to lower comprehension and fluency. A definition of dyslexia is now written into special education code and a yearly 2-hour professional development requirement for dyslexia is mandated for all New Jersey teachers in grades PK-3, special education, reading teachers, ELL teachers, reading specialists, learning disabilities teacher consultants, and speech-language consultants.

Dyslexia 3 will continue to build upon the skills and content learned in Dyslexia 2. The participants will increase their knowledge in the characteristics and signs of dyslexia, interventions and accommodations, assessment and screening, and use of technology. Instructional techniques for phonological awareness, word study, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and writing will be emphasized. Participants will have ample opportunity to ask questions and share strategies.
