Meeting Communication Needs of Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Once a low incidence population, students with autism now comprise many of the children in public schools who receive services for communication disorders. According to the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, ( speech-language pathologists play a central role in the screening, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of persons with autism spectrum disorder. This workshop will present practical, evidence-based solutions for addressing communication needs in students with autism.  Topics will include: Implementing formal and informal evaluation measures; Identifying functional outcomes; Developing IEP goals and objectives for communication; and Using data to measure learning outcomes. As an interprofessional approach is in the students’ best interests, special educators as well as speech-language specialists are encouraged to attend this workshop.

The workshop will be presented by Dr. Amy Hadley.
