Once a low incidence population, students with autism now comprise many of the children in public schools who receive services for communication disorders. According to the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, (asha.org) speech-language pathologists play a central role in the screening, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of persons with autism spectrum disorder. This workshop will present practical, evidence-based solutions for addressing communication needs in students with autism. Topics will include: Implementing formal and informal evaluation measures; Identifying functional outcomes; Developing IEP goals and objectives for communication; and Using data to measure learning outcomes. As an interprofessional approach is in the students’ best interests, special educators as well as speech-language specialists are encouraged to attend this workshop.
The workshop will be presented by Dr. Amy Hadley.
Dr. Amy Hadley is an Associate Professor of Communication Disorders at Stockton and Director of the University’s Graduate Program in Communication Disorders.
