IMPORTANT H1N1 INFORMATION

Update from the Nurse's Office

On August 5, 2009, the CDC recommended that the amount of time people with influenza-like illness should stay away from others for at least 24 hours AFTER their fever is gone (without the use of fever-reducing medicine). This exclusion period guidance is based on epidemiologic data about the overrall risk of severe illness. District staff will participate in an Educator's Pandemic Influenza Summit, sponsored by the NJDOE, prior to the opening of school. We will work in close collaboration with the Department of Health to ensure the safety of all our school community. Teachers will double their efforts to teach the steps that prevent the transmission of infections such as influenza:

  • Cover your coughs and sneezes.
  • avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Wash hands frequesntly, especially after coughing or sneezing.
  • stay home if you're sick, especially with a fever.

Should your child be sent home from school with signs of illness, we ask that they remain at home until 24-48 hours after their sysmptoms resolve. Listed below are other resources that may assist you in keeping your family healthy:

  • US Department of Health and Human Services on-line at http://www.pandemicflu.gov
  • NJ Department of Health and Senior Services on-line at http://www.NJFluPandemic.gov
