Update from the Nurse's Office

Thanks to the guidance from the Atlantic County Schools Pandemic Influenza Toolkit, provided to all county schools in Septemeber 2008, the Weymouth Township School is ready to assist our families in preventing and preparing for communicable disease outbreaks, such as is occuring currently with the spreadingoutbreak of Swine Influenza in Mexico. The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services indicates that no cases of swine influenza (H1N1), known as swine flu, have been detected in New Jersey as of April 26, 2009. However, this is a rapidly evolving situation. As more information becomes available and the situation unfolds, guidance is likely to change in the upcomng days and weeks. It is important for people to stay informed. You can do so by monitoring information provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on-line at http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/. The information on this site is updated daily. Weymouth Township School continues with an increased level of education on respiratory hygiene and will closely monitor staff and students for any signs of acute febrile respiratory illness. Teachers will double their efforts to teach the steps that prevent the transmission of infections such as influenza:

  • Cover your coughs and sneezes.
  • avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Wash hands frequesntly, especially after coughing or sneezing.
  • stay home if you're sick, especially with a fever.

Should your child be sent home from school with signs of illness, we ask that they remain at home until 24-48 hours after their sysmptoms resolve. Listed below are other resources that may assist you in keeping your family healthy:

  • US Department of Health and Human Services on-line at http://www.pandemicflu.gov
  • NJ Department of Health and Senior Services on-line at http://www.NJFluPandemic.gov
